The Kokoda Challenge DVD includes information on all the main Kokoda Trail trekking companies.

In our experience, all the reputable trekking operators are pretty good at getting tourists through the Kokoda Track and back home again, in one piece. Be aware that Kokoda tour companies concentrate on different elements of the Kokoda Trail. Some specialise in the military history of the Track, others on the local PNG culture or on the trekker's internal journey as they face the challenge of walking the Kokoda Track. Think about what walking the Kokoda Track means to YOU before choosing a trekking company.

It is also worth noting that the bigger Kokoda tour companies pay their people properly and are well organised. This means you will be professionally looked after as you walk the Kokoda Trail, and able to concentrate on making the most of your personal Kokoda trek experience.

There are smaller, one-man Kokoda tour operations that aren't shown on the Kokoda Challenge DVD. Our experience is that these small Kokoda tour companies vary enormously in cost and quality. Sometimes it works but sometimes there are disappointed trekkers left standing in the rain. Unless you have a firm, personal recommendation, our advice would be to avoid these companies, especially if this is your first time walking the Kokoda Track.
